if i could be whitney houston

Imagine being as talented as mega-singing star Whitney Houston. Feel the vibrations of thousands as they applaud and roar in praise of you below a row of lights and security guards pushing back the crowds. Picture yourself buying a 10,000 square foot mansion in Beverly Hills...and one in Italy...and one in Costa Rica. Feel between your fingers the wad of cash and breathe in the smell of old musty paper as you pay the swanky salesperson for the 15 bags of designer clothes that your assistants will carry for you as you make your way to a luxury car and notify the driver that he can move out into traffic..... Would you feel satisfied?

There's a reason that so many who "have it all" come to the end of a day and realize that they are hopeless...because no "thing" or "status" in an earthly sense can ever satisfy. How tragically sad to see anyone struggle so deeply as Whitney Houston obviously struggled. As a believer, we too often flounder needlessly in a sea of conflicting messages and cultural images that compete for our vision, but we should not.  Consider, friends, the truth that Godliness with contentment is great gain. Is that true? Do we take God at His word? I know that I have spent a lot of time in my life buying into the idea that a new Gucci bag will make me happy. I have wasted time peering over at someone else's grass or thinking to myself, "when I finally have a husband then....when I have this amount in my paycheck then....when I am free of this physical pain then....when I am skinny enough then... I will not want". But the only times my heart sings is when I am in the center of God's will, eyes fixed on Him, prayerfully content in Jesus alone. It doesn't happen by chance. Whitney Houston possessed a voice like no other I have ever heard-and it has been silenced by her demons. Friend, are you allowing your mind to be anything less than wholly content right where you are, with what you have, right now? Realize that if you have Christ, you have more than you will ever need or want and that the peace He brings is far more valuable than any talent or possession.
