10 Bible Passages For Our Military and Their Loved Ones

10 bible Passages for Military

There is no greater committment to one's country then to serve in the various branches of the military. It's a sacrifice that thousands make as family members and loved ones and we often take it for granted. As a woman who once saw a loved one leave for a long deployment oversees, as well as someone who has several veterans in my family, I am so grateful to the men and women who serve our country and to the families and friends who endure the stresses that it puts on their relationships.

May these verses be a comfort and an encouragement to both the military personnel themselves, and those who care for them. Thank you, dear ones, for your courage and bravery for my sake and for your country!

The Lord says, “Because he is devoted to me, I will deliver him; I will protect him because he is loyal to me.” Psalm 91:14

The Lord is merciful and fair; our God is compassionate. The Lord protects the untrained; I was in serious trouble and he delivered me. Psalm 116:5-6

Be strong and courageous! Do not fear or tremble before them, for the Lord your God is the one who is going with you. He will not fail you or abandon you! Deuteronomy 31:6

The spirit of the sovereign Lord is upon me, because the Lord has chosen me. He has commissioned me to encourage the poor, to help the brokenhearted, to decree the release of captives, and the freeing of prisoners, to announce the year when the Lord will show his favor, the day when our God will seek vengeance, to console all who mourn, to strengthen those who mourn in Zion, by giving them a turban, instead of ashes, oil symbolizing joy, instead of mourning, a garment symbolizing praise, instead of discouragement. They will be called oaks of righteousness, trees planted by the Lord to reveal his splendor. Isaiah 61:1-3

Why are you depressed, O my soul? Why are you upset? Wait for God! For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention. Psalm 42:11

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor heavenly rulers, nor things that are present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

Be sober and alert. Your enemy the devil, like a roaring lion, is on the prowl looking for someone to devour. Resist him, strong in your faith, because you know that your brothers and sisters throughout the world are enduring the same kinds of suffering. 1 Peter 5:8-9

God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful. I Corinthians 1:9

And God is able to make all grace overflow to you so that because you have enough of everything in every way at all times, you will overflow in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:8

If I were to fly away on the wings of the dawn, and settle down on the other side of the sea, even there your hand would guide me, your right hand would grab hold of me. Psalm 139:9-10

Take time to meditate on these passages and pray them back to God. Whether we are in a foreign land, dusty and dry, alone on a cot aboard a large ship, or at home caring for young children, God hears our cries and our petitions for ourselves and our family members. He is quick to answer and wants to provide the comfort and assurance that we long for in times of uncertainty. Entrust all things to our loving God and praise Him in advance for the good things He will do in our lives.

YOUR TURN! Where are you or a loved one serving your country? Share with us ways that we can be praying for you as you serve, support a friend or family member, or as a veteran. What are you most grateful for about our military? I love to hear from you!!

Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory. Psalm 115:1
