Moving Day?
The sharpee markers, packing tape, bubble wrap, and newspapers cluttered every corner of my kitchen. I was packing up our lives, once again, and preparing to put our belongings in storage-this next move would be a temporary one. And now that we have been in that temporary home for some months now, we know that the next move will be happening within the next 2-6 months. As a mother of 3 very young boys, I would rather be doing almost anything than packing and unpacking, but the idea of the move itself no longer stresses me out. It excites me! You see, there are some incredibly monumental promises guiding our steps.
The number one prayer of my heart for my sons is that they will seek God, and find Him. The process of our moves, is the exact setting in which God determined before the foundation of the world to create an ideal environment for them to be drawn to Him!
Acts 17 26-28 tells us, “26 From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. 27 God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. 28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’
The truth of this passage gives me a lot of comfort. I don’t need to worry about which house will be the “right” one for us. God has it determined, and it is ours to happily discover. I also don’t need to feel any pride or guilt about what that will look like-God’s sovereignty is well underway. The best part of the moves we have made is the knowledge that God is using these exact places at these exact times to cause the stirring of our hearts to reach out to Him and find Him, even though He is always near to us. What a comfort!
If you are facing a move, an unexpected transfer to a place where you don’t know a soul, the loss of a home in a down economy, or even a move in which you have long anticipated and planned on making, don’t miss what God is doing in the process for you and each member of your family! None of it is an accident. Embrace the change and allow God to place you where He has already determined is a good home. Pray for your family as they settle in and open your eyes to the neighbors around you that God has also purposely placed in your sphere of influence. You are sent to them as well! Invite them into your lives, and pray that you would be a light, right where you are. The direction of our steps is a sure-footed journey when we acknowledge God’s Word and allow it to take up residence in our hearts!
