His Son, For Mine
He was only 4 months old when I shared the good news with him. We were alone in his nursery in the upstairs apartment where we lived at the time and I was sitting on the floor next to his crib. I felt the deep desire to be the first one to tell him.
I wanted him to know that the most important thing I would ever tell him was that he was born a with a sin nature, a tendency to naturally choose wrongdoing, and that our Holy God would require him to be clean before he could come into His presence. I wanted him to know that he could never do that on his own. Alone, he could never be good enough. I looked deeply into his slowly blinking eyes and told him that in spite of his peril, that God had made a way of escape.
God had given to my son, His son.
God needed a perfect sacrifice. Jesus, His own beloved Son came into the world to die on a cross and pay the punishment for us all. For my Oliver. His Son suffered, that mine would not have to. That is love.
I needed my baby boy to hear from me that by believing in Jesus as the Son of God, asking for God's forgiveness, and inviting Him in to wash away his sins, that he could live a life full of truth, purpose, and meaning. A life that promises trouble, but the grace and strength of an Almighty and loving God to bring promise from suffering.
I wanted Oliver to know how deeply loved He is by God. And I wanted him to hear it from me on a regular basis and as early as possible.
I haven't stopped telling each of my sons the Good News. The gift that all they must do is receive.
When little brothers Quinn and Oakley arrived, they heard the salvation story too. Each boy, held like the gifts they are in my arms, listened as their mother breathed life words into them at only a few months of age.
Do you know the Good News, reader?
“For the payoff of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

“For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God; it is not from works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
“Jesus replied, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.' John 14:6
God awaits your sincere prayer for forgiveness. My prayer is that you too will seek Him, because you will certainly find Him. And when you do, dear brother or sister, find a sound Bible-teaching Christian church and let them know that you are a new Christ follower. Your adventure is about to begin!
YOUR TURN! When did you come to know Christ as your Savior? Let's encourage one another with our stories! How do you "tell" the good news to your children?
Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory. Psalm 115:1
